Ashley Darkwood - Paranormal Investigator - Haunted Historian

I was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England. From the age of 5, my mother took me to Wycombe Spiritualist Church. By my teenage years, I was doing psychic readings for school friends and went on to develop mediumship. My first investigation into a paranormal report was at 16 years old. By my late teens, I was already being asked to investigate what was reported to be hauntings in people's homes. However, I noticed that many of these reports and phenomena were not paranormal and had more innocent origins. I grew up studying Martial Arts, and gained a keen interest in Eastern philosophy.
I spent many years working for the NHS in acute medical care and for Social Services in community psychiatric care, gaining skills and insights which would prove invaluable when supporting individuals who believe they are experiencing a paranormal event.
As a paranormal investigator, I set myself apart from ghost hunters who try to capture the evidence of a ghost. I look for the cause of the activity. I'm critical of many ghost hunt gadgets due to their fallible nature within a genuine investigation. I am not interested in proving the existence of paranormal phenomena. I am more motivated by my own interest in the causes of these phenomena and helping clients find peace, understanding or resolution of their experiences. I go into a case "sober" not as a medium. I have witnessed many mediums give entirely false information during investigations which has caused the client a great deal of distress and anxiety.
I have appeared in print, on radio and TV as a paranormal researcher offering analysis and opinion. You may have seen/heard me on productions such as Uncanny, World's Most Unexplained, Expedition X and others. There's also a very good chance you have heard my research coming from someone else's mouth too, as my research has been used by a number of productions. I run a range of ghost and haunted tours around London and the south-east of England. I place as much importance on the study of history as I do the paranormal encounters. I have been described by Dr Ciaran O'Keeffe as a Haunted Historian! While filming episodes of World's Most Unexplained in New York a chance conversation with the producer led to my Amersham Ghost Tour script being used as the synopsis for another episode of the documentary!
I have performed both mediumship and paranormal investigation around the UK, New York & New Jersey USA.
I no longer perform mediumship outside of church or centre settings. Since the advent of social media I have seen a worrying devolution in morals and ethics within the movement.
I'm currently developing a screenplay based on true paranormal accounts. I am also writing a book and paranormal documentary. In my career I have also worked as an actor, stunt performer.
